01Overview
What is cooperative housing?
With cooperative housing, you do not buy the apartment directly into private ownership. You become a member of the housing cooperative, which owns the building and its individual apartments.
As a cooperative member, you acquire a membership share associated with the right to use a specific apartment under a lease.
The cooperative takes out the loan to finance the building. You therefore do not need a personal mortgage and repay the remaining apartment price through monthly payments.
The apartment can be transferred into private ownership once the conditions have been met.
